Research activity
Research activity is chiefly focused on the biomonitoring of atmospheric pollution. Special care is devoted to the study of:

geothermal areas, both natural and exploited industrially
lichen biodiversity of urban areas of Tuscany
set up of scales to interpret lichen biodiversity values counts terms of environmental naturality/alteration
lichen recolonization following decreasing concentrations of some air pollutants
monthly concentrations of trace elements in lichen transplants compared with wet and dry deposition data
environmental distribution of natural and depleted uranium in the Balkan area

Ecological research area mainly addressed to the study of:

influence of several environmental factors (elevation, climate, forest management, tree species, etc.) on the epiphytic lichen communities
effects of agricultural practices on the epiphytic lichen communities
