Agreement for the establishment of international cooperation
With the ph.d. program in History, Archaeology and Anthropology of
the Ancient World (Division of Anthropology of the Ancient World)
THE PARTIES
- University of Siena
Ph.D. Program in History,
Archaeology and Anthropology of the Ancient World (Division of
Anthropology of the Ancient World), Siena, Italy
- The Focus Program on Mediterranean Cultures and
Religions of the College of Humanities and the College of the Arts of
The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, The United States.
Whereas
The Ohio State University and the Università degli Studi di Siena
have an existing agreement on Academic and Scientific Cooperation,
established in 2001 and a Student Exchange agreement, established in
2003, the Parties enter into this sub-agreement based:
- on the fundamental importance of promoting inter-university
collaboration for the development of educational and scholarly graduate
programs as well as common research interests; and
- on collaboration in order to foster both specialized
learning and professional understanding for graduate students; and
considering
- the rules in force in the two countries and, with regard to Italy, art. 3 Ministerial Decree n. 509 of November 3rd, 1999 concerning Universities didactic autonomy; and
- the Statute of the University of Siena delivered with D.R. n. 746 of October 31st, 1994 and subsequent changes;
the Parties have agreed to sign this agreement, which will remain
valid for a period of five years, or until one of the parties declares
that it expires, which would done before October 1 of the year
preceding that in which such expiration will take place.
Art. 1
Objectives
This agreement aims at formalizing the research and teaching
activities that the Ph.D. program in History, Archaeology and
Anthropology of the Ancient World (Division of Anthropology in the
Ancient World), based at the Centro Antropologia e Mondo antico,
University of Siena, carries out in cooperation with the Focus Program
on Mediterranean Cultures and Religions based in the departments of
Greek & Latin and of History of Art at the Ohio State University. Such cooperation aims to further the specific research
interests of the doctoral program in Anthropology of the Ancient World
and of the Focus Program on Mediterranean Cultures and Religions. The
scholarly objectives of the programs are to inaugurate new subjects in
an emerging field of study and to promote the intersection of diverse
research areas, such as anthropology of the ancient world, classical
and post-classical cultures, religious studies, regional studies, etc. The collaborative program offers both students and faculty
members the opportunity to undertake part of their teaching and
research activity in the foreign institution with which the agreement
is established, within the framework of integrated research programs.
Such programs will take into account the needs that will gradually
emerge within the scholarly initiative to which the present agreement
belongs. Specifically, the agreement aims to promote methodological
exchange between The Ohio State University and the Università degli
Studi di Siena. One instrument of this exchange is a parallel seminar
on the same topic, held at both institutions in the same Academic year,
and followed by a meeting (called "study conference" in this agreement)
of representatives of both institutions either in Siena or in Columbus,
in which the results of these seminars are exchanged and developed
further.
Other activities can be negotiated.
Art. 2
Governing Body
The following bodies will be responsible for managing the present agreement:
In Siena:

State may be asked to join the Committee;
At The Ohio State University:
the Steering Committee of the Focus Program on Mediterranean
Cultures and Religions, in its capacity to propose and verify
objectives for the program, and to evaluate its results. Members of the
Centro Antropologia e Mondo antico at the Università degli Studi di
Siena may be asked to join the Committee.
Each year, both programs will define the educational and scholarly
objectives of their collaboration and the specific means of their
attainment, and may create joint committees for the evaluation of
doctoral dissertations.
Art. 3
