per istituire una reciprocità di carattere internazionale con le
attività svolte dalla Scuola di Dottorato in "Storia, archeologia e
antropologia del mondo antico - Sezione di antropologia del mondo
antico"
AGREEMENT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION WITH
THE PH.D. PROGRAM IN History, Archaeology and Anthropology of the
Ancient World (Division of Anthropology of the Ancient World)
THE PARTIES
- University of Siena
Ph.D. Program in History, Archaeology and Anthropology of the Ancient World (Division of Anthropology of the Ancient World)
- University of California at Berkeley
Department of Classics
WHEREAS
- the parties agree on the fundamental importance of
promoting inter-university collaboration for the development of
educational and scholarly graduate programs;
- the parties have already been collaborating on a scholarly and educational level for some time, with positive results;
- the
agreement on cooperation has been formulated in order to foster both
specialised learning and professional understanding for graduate
students;
HAVE AGREED
to siign this agreement, which will remain valid for a period of
five (5) years, or until one of the parties will declare it expired,
this to be done before October 1 of the year preceding that in which
such expiration will take place.
Art. 1
Objectives
This agreement aims at formalizing the research and teaching
activities that the Ph.D. Program in History, Archaeology and
Anthropology of the Ancient World (Division of Anthropology of the
Ancient World), based in the Centro Antropologia e Mondo antico,
University of Siena, carries out in cooperation with the Department of
Classics of the University of California at Berkeley.
Such cooperation aims to further the specific research
interests of the doctoral program in Anthropology of the Ancient World
in areas of particular relevance. The scholarly objectives of the
program are to inaugurate new disciplines in an emerging field of
study, and to promote the intersection of diverse research areas, such
as anthropology of the ancient world, classical culture and literatur,
gender studies, etc.
The collaborative program offers both students and teachers
the opportunity to undertake part of their teaching and research
activity in the foreign institution with which the agreement is
established, within the framework of integrated research programs. Such
programs will take into account the needs that will gradually emerge
within the scholarly initiative.
Specifically, the agreement with the University of Siena
aims to promote a methodological exchange between the United States and
Italy, according to an initiative which has been underway in the
scholarly community.
Art. 2
Governing Body
The following bodies will be responsible for managing the present agreement:
In Siena:
-
the Teaching Staff Committee of the doctoral
program in History, Archaeology and Anthropology of the Ancient World
(Division of Anthropology of the Ancient World), in its capacity to
propose and verify objectives for the program. Members of the foreign
institution may be asked to join the Committee;

the Scientific Committee, in its capacity to evaluate the results of the program.
In Berkeley:
-
The Faculty of the Department of Classics, in its
capacity to propose and verify objectives for the program, and evaluate
its results.

The Ph.D. Committee, in its capacity to evaluate individual students' research activities.
Each year, both programs will define the educational and scholarly
programs outlined in the Preamble, and may create joint committees for
the evaluation of doctoral dissertations.
Art. 3
Validation of Study Periods Abroad
The Parties agree to recognise the periods of study abroad
undertaken by their respective students. This recognition will apply to
both credits and to degrees.
Art. 4 A
Organization of the Ph.D. (Siena)
Teaching and seminars within the doctoral program in History,
Archaeology and Anthropology of the Ancient World (Division of
Anthropology of the Ancient World), including first and second year
modules, as well as tutorial discussions of the dissertation, are
structured according to a credit system. On the basis of the credit
system established by the program, each cooperating institution will
assign a credit value to both the regular attendance of courses and
seminars and the tutorial discussion of dissertation work teachers of
the relevant institution. Thanks to this credit system, Italian
students spending part of their doctoral program in one of the foreign
cooperating institutions, or, in turn, foreign students working in
Siena, will be able to quantify the work undertaken during the exchange
and have it recognised by their home institution.
Part of the teaching in the Siena program will be undertaken
in English, in order to enable students from the cooperating
institutions better to participate in the program itself. All teaching
undertaken in Siena by visiting members of the cooperating institutions
will be in a foreign language.
The parties agree to create and update a website, containing
all relevant information about activities undertaken and planned, as
well as teaching or research materials relevant to the joint activities
or in any other manner deemed useful.
Siena Ph.D. candidates who choose to take advantage of the
opportunities of international exchange foreseen by this project are
obliged to reside for at least 6 months, continous or not, in one of
the locations (or in both of the locations) with which an exchange
agreement is being made.
Art. 4 B
Procedural protocols
-
The acceptance of any participants will be at the discretion of the host institution.
-
The funding of the travel and accommodation costs of participants in
the exchange program shall be the responsibility of the sending
institution. Nevertheless, the host departments may at their own
discretion arrange for grants to assist in the payment of various
required fees.

Each host institution will provide
Visiting Scholar or Researcher status for exchange faculty and
researchers accepted from the sending institution. When possible, the
host institution will provide appropriate working space and access to
library, computer, and related facilities.

In each academic year, both
programs shall exchange up to four qualified students who shall study
at the appropriate host university for up to two semesters.

At Berkeley the visiting student
will become a Visiting Student Researcher in the Visiting Scholar and
Post Doctoral Affairs Program. The student will then audit classes at
Berkeley. Students may take up to four courses per semester. The
mandatory fees associated with this status are: (1) fees for visa
processing; (2) mandatory health insurance, currently $275 per
semester; (3) library and campus facilities fee for visiting scholars,
$200 per year.

The visiting scholars
participating in the program shall be subject to the host university's
policies and regulations concerning academic personnel and intellectual
property.
Art. 5
Legal Responsibility
Personal or material damages caused to third parties are subject to the laws of the country where these damages occur.
Art. 6
Changes to the Agreement
Any change or addition to this agreement, or any supplementary
agreement, will have to be made in writing, with the assent of the
cooperating institutions, at least six months in advance. Any change to
the agreement will affect the activities of the following academic
year.
Both the Italian and English texts of this agreement are
equally valid. They will be approved by the relevant bodies of the
participating institutions.

PREMESSO CHE:

le parti contraenti ritengono di fondamentale
importanza promuovere collaborazioni inter-universitarie per lo
sviluppo di programmi educativi e scientifici a livello post-laurea;
-
fra le parti contraenti esiste da
tempo una collaborazione scientifica e didattica che ha già prodotto
esperienze di notevole interesse;
-
il programma di collaborazione che
è stato elaborato è in grado sia di favorire forme di apprendimento
specialistico sia di promuovere esperienze professionali per giovani
laureati;
HANNO DECISO
di sottoscrivere il presente accordo che resterà in vigore per un
periodo di 5 anni, ma con la possibilità per ciascuna delle parti di
dichiararlo estinto nei propri confronti entro il primo di Ottobre
dell'anno precedente a quello in cui tale estinzione avrà effetto.
Art. 1
Finalità dell'accordo
L'accordo viene stipulato allo scopo di formalizzare la ricerca e
le attività didattiche della Scuola di Dottorato in Storia, Archeologia
e Antropologia del Mondo antico – Sezione di Antropologia del Mondo
antico con sede presso il Centro Antropologia e Mondo antico
dell'Università degli Studi di Siena, mediante la collaborazione
dell’University of California at Berkeley, Department of Classics.
La collaborazione è tesa a sviluppare in ambiti
particolarmente qualificati gli specifici filoni di interesse che il
dottorato in Antropologia del Mondo antico persegue da tempo.
Si tratta di obiettivi scientifici che inaugurano nuovi settori
disciplinari in un campo di studi emergente, e promuovono la confluenza
di diversi indirizzi di ricerca, quali l’antropologia del mondo antico,
la cultura e le letterature classiche, gli studi di genere, etc.
Il programma di collaborazione offre a studenti e docenti la
possibilità di svolgere parte della loro attività didattica e di
ricerca presso le sedi straniere con cui è attiva la collaborazione,
nell'ambito di progetti di studio integrati, secondo le esigenze che si
verranno delineando progressivamente.
In particolare, il rapporto con l’Università di Berkeley (CA). è destinato a favorire lo scambio metodologico fra Italia e Stati Uniti, secondo un progetto che è
stato avviato da tempo dalla comunità scientifica.
Art. 2
Organi
Gli organi chiamati ad operare nell'accordo di collaborazione sono:
A Siena:
-
Il Collegio dei docenti della Scuola di Dottorato
in Storia, Archeologia e Antropologia del Mondo antico – Sezione di
Antropologia del Mondo antico, con funzioni di proposta e di verifica
dei risultati ottenuti; il Collegio potrà essere integrato da docenti
della struttura straniera;

Comitato Scientifico, con competenze relative alla valutazione dei risultati.
A Berkeley:
-
Il Collegio dei docenti, con funzione di proposta e di verifica dei risultati ottenuti

Il Ph.D.Committee, con competenze relative alla valutazione
I programmi educativi e scientifici di cui nella premessa saranno
annualmente definiti dai Coordinatori dei dottorati (Phd programs) e si
potranno formare delle Commissioni congiunte per la valutazione delle
tesi.
Art. 3
Riconoscimento dei periodi di studio
Le parti si impegnano, secondo quanto previsto dal regolamento del
programma di scambio, ad effettuare il mutuo riconoscimento dei periodi
di studio trascorsi dagli studenti all'estero, sia in termini di
crediti che in termini di attestati e titoli spendibili nei Paesi
partecipanti al progetto.
Art. 4 A
Organizzazione del Dottorato (Siena)
Le attività didattiche e seminariali della Scuola di Dottorato in
Storia, Archeologia e Antropologia del Mondo antico – Sezione di
Antropologia del Mondo antico, dai moduli del primo anno e secondo anno
alla discussione seminariale del lavoro di tesi, sono strutturate
secondo un calendario valutato in crediti. Parallelamente, nelle sedi
con cui si stabilisce l'accordo vengono valutati in crediti sia la
frequenza di corsi e seminari, sia la discussione seminariale del
lavoro di tesi (parziale o generale) con i docenti stranieri. In questo
modo, il dottorando italiano che trascorra un periodo in una delle due
sedi consociate, o il dottorando straniero che trascorra un analogo
periodo di studio a Siena, potrà facilmente quantificare il lavoro
svolto, e ottenerne il riconoscimento.
Parte delle lezioni previste per il dottorato senese si
svolgerà in lingua inglese, per permettere agli studenti provenienti da
altre sedi una partecipazione più completa e attiva. In particolare, in
lingua straniera potranno essere tenute tutte le lezioni tenute dai
docenti stranieri ospiti del nostro Dottorato.
Le parti si impegnano a creare e aggiornare un sito web, contenente
tutte le informazioni rilevanti sulle attività svolte e programmate,
nonché i materiali didattici e di ricerca relativi alle attività
congiunte o a qualsiasi titolo ritenute utili.
I dottorandi che scelgano di usufruire delle possibilità di
scambio internazionale previste da questo progetto sono obbligati a
permanere per almeno sei mesi, continuativi o no, in una delle sedi (o
in entrambe le sedi) con cui si stipula l'accordo.
Art. 4 B
Protocolli procedurali
- L’accettazione di ogni partecipante sarà a discrezione dell’Istituzione ospitante.
- Il
finanziamento del viaggio e I costi di alloggio per i partecipanti al
programma di scambio saranno sotto la responsabilita’ dell’Istituzione
inviante. Tuttavia, il Dipartimento ospitante potrà a propria
discrezione mettere a disposizione delle sovvenzioni per contribuire al
pagamento delle varie tasse richieste.
- Ciascuna Istituzione ospitante fornità lo status di
“Visiting Scholar” o “Visiting Researcher” per gli studenti e i
ricercatori accettati dall’Istituzione inviante. Quando possibile,
l’Istutuzione ospitante metterà a disposizione appropriati spazi di
lavoro, accesso alle Biblioteche e altre facilitazioni.
- In ciascun anno accademico, entrambe le Scuole di
dottorato potranno inviare fino ad un massimo di quattro studenti
qualitificati che potranno studiare nelle corrispondenti Università
ospitanti fino ad un massimo di due semestri.
- A Berkeley gli studenti partecipanti al programma di
scambio saranno accolti come Visiting Student nell’ambito del programma
“Visiting Scholars and Post Doctoral Affairs”. Gli studenti potranno in
questo modo prendere parte attiva ai corsi a Berkeley, fino ad un
massimo di quattro corsi per semestre.
Art. 5
Responsabilità legale
Per i danni personali o materiali causati a terzi, vigono le leggi dello Stato in cui si sono verificati i danni.
Art. 6
Emendamenti
Ogni cambiamento o aggiunta alla convenzione o ogni accordo
supplementare dovrà essere fatto per iscritto e con il consenso di
tutte le Università partecipanti con almeno sei mesi di preavviso. Ogni
modifica a tale accordo riguarderà comunque le attività dell'anno
accademico successivo a quello in corso.
Il presente accordo, le cui versioni in lingua italiana ed
inglese e sono ugualmente autentiche, verrà approvato dagli organi
competenti delle Istituzioni partner.
