Anthropology and the Ancient World

The Center also hosts the director and secretarial staff of the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies "Anthropology and the Ancient World", the first of association of its kind to be established in Italy. Established in 1986, the Association numbers about a hundred members throughout Italy, including high school teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, and university professors, as well as other interested laypersons. The Association sponsors conferences and conventions organized by local groups, associations and academic institutions affiliated with the University and not, and, among other things, organizes an annual conference in Siena dedicated to research conducted by the Center for Anthropology of the Ancient World in Siena. The Association also supports the publication of scholarly books and journals promoting the critical anthropological study of the ancient world.
