The “” Network for the Exploitation of University Research (NetVal) Association was officially established at the Politecnico di Milano on September 11th, 2007. This new Association is based on a network of the same name that was set up in 2002.
NetVal’s members are currently 31 Italian universities cooperating on topics such as intellectual property protection, creation of spin-off companies and technology transfer.

The Association’s mission is to promote University research by encouraging the transfer of the academic research results (technology transfer) to Italian industries, in particular through collaborations with small and medium sized enterprises. It aims at sharing among universities the research needs and potentials, by providing them with the tools for technology assessment, promotion and transfer. The need to create a central body for the management of technology transfer offices comes on one hand from the heterogeneity of the universities participating to the network (in terms of size, research areas, internal facilities to support technology transfer, presence of qualified personnel), and on the other from the need to create a critical mass permitting economies of scale and learning.
The establishment of the Association affords the opportunity of optimizing the financial resources available to universities for the exploitation of their researches, accessing funds available at national or international level (such as those of the PROTON-Europe project) and acting as an central evaluating body for funding at regional level.
