During the first year, PhD student Elena Gianchecchi learned the principal methods of cellular and molecular biology employed in the laboratory (protein dosages by Bradford, RNA extraction, Reverse transcriptase PCR, PCR, Western blot, protein coimmunoprecipitation, and immunocytochemistry). Moreover, she gained knowledge of cell cultures, their pharmacological treatment and the isolation of monocytes from human blood.
