RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Prof. A. Pompella is author of over 65 papers, published in international peer-reviewed scientific Journals, and of approx. 90 presentations at national and international congresses. Has served as Reviewer for Journals as Biochemical Pharmacology, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, Free Radical Biology and Medicine, Pharmacology, FASEB Journal, as well as for the Wellcome Foundation. Member of the Società Italiana di Patologia, the Society for Free Radical Research, the Union Internationale Contre le Cancer, and the Society for Histochemistry.

Research activity of Prof. Pompella is dedicated to molecular mechanisms, histochemistry and pathophysiologic effects of oxidant stress and lipid peroxidation. His more recent studies were concerned with the identification in vivo of products of lipid peroxidation, the pro-oxidant effects of membrane-bound gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity, the role of the cell redox balance in modulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis in tumor cells.
