of Siena from 1992.
1985 to 1988
Doctoral fellow at EMBL were he studied the
haptoglobin gene regulation in hepatic cells. Identified cis-acting regulatory
elements and trans-acting factors involved in the haptoglobin liver-specific
expression and response to IL-6.
1988-1992 Post
doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School were studied the molecular mechanisms
of the gene regulation mediated by GCN4, c-jun and c-fos in the yeast
Saccharomyces cerevisiae and in fibroblasts. In this system he characterised the
contribution of c-fos in cell
transformation.
In Siena the
laboratory is involved in two main research projects:
- The study of
molecular mechanism of angiogenesis in cellular systems . The characterisation
of the cell response to the angiogenic factor VEGF-D (vascular endothelial
growth factor) identified and cloned in the laboratory.

The
transcriptional regulation of the dystrophin and the utrophin genes in muscle
cells and in animal models. Molecular mechanisms of utrophin activation in
muscle cells.
