- 1357. Emperor Charles IV of Luxembourg provided that arise in Siena a Studium Generale «in iure civili et canonico et medicinis, philosophia, loyca, gramatica et quavis alia facultate».
- 1591. The figure of Rector was established, elected both by schoolchildren and city magistrates.
- 1738. The economist Pompeo Neri was commissioned by the Lorraine government to form a plan for developing the University by the organizational and cultural profile and proposed a reform to enhance its scientific level.
- 1741. Pompeo Neri in order to renew the teaching of anatomical teaching with the introduction of experimental method, called the Rimini medical doctor Giovanni Bianchi; itwas also made mandatory the inclusion of teachers in the Fisiocritici Academy (founded in 1691) to create a strong scientific collaboration with that institution.
- 1745. The first official teaching of obstetrics in Siena, was entrusted to Giacomo Bartolomei.
- 1808. With the French invasion, the University of Siena was closed and was turned into an official School of Medicine depending on the University of Pisa. It was reopened again in 1814.
- 1845. The Chair of Obstetrics is established.
- 1851. Higher education in the Granducato was reorganized into a single Tuscany University, called Etruscan Studio, and divided into locations of Pisa and Siena. In Siena there were only two faculties, Law and Theology, while in Pisa remained active faculties of Philosophy and Philology, Medicine, Mathematics and Natural Sciences. With the annulment of the decree of 1851 the School of Medicine and Surgery was re-activated in Siena.
- 1876. It was founded the School of Obstetrics, necessarily linked to a maternity home or to a hospital with at least 15 beds for pregnant women.
- 1881. The Obstetric Institute includes the following courses: obstetrics and pertinent clinic, gynecology.
- 1893. The Obstetric Institute of the Univerisity of Siena is declared Obstetrics and Gynecology Institute.
- 1930-31. Francesco Spirito aimed to establish an advanced School in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the first school of specialization for physicians, and single for a long time, in the University of Siena. It was a 4-year school and issued the diploma of "obstetrician-gynecologist specialist".
- 2001. Establishment of the Degree Course in Obstetrics with course coordinator Felice Petraglia (2001-2004) and Maria Grazia Ricci (2005-2007).
