Domenico Francavilla is post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Religious Sciences, Piacenza. He received his J.D. from the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Milan and his Ph.D in Philosophy of Law (Method and legal traditions) from the University of Padua. In addition he studied Indology at the Department of Oriental Studies of the University of Turin. He is research and teaching assistant at the Department of History and Theory of Law of the University of Florence in the field of Legal Theory (since 1999) and at the Department of Law of the University of Turin in the field of Comparative Law (since 2003). He is a member of the editorial staff of the Journal Daimon. Annuario di diritto comparato delle religioni (Bologna, Il Mulino). He has published and lectured on Hindu and Indian laws, mainly on topics concerning Legal Hermeneutics and Law and Society. He is currently working on unofficial and informal laws in Europe and South Asia.
